Growing up I spent a lot of time exploring. Old parking lots, abandoned vehicles and overgrown fields were my favourite places to visit. In my recent work I construct landscapes through which one’s mind can wander and perhaps find inspiration. I compose scenes using a process I have developed involving drawing and photographic image transfer. This work deals with reality as a constructed narrative by combining "real’ photographic images to create scenes that do not actually exist outside of the work itself - a form of deceptive realism. The selective process mimics the telling of a story, or making of a memory. It points out that our worlds are partly what we make of them, as our realities are both selective and subjective. In piecing together bits of the world to create scenes that seem real and familiar, I create a culturally specific familiarity, based on the places I come from. These pictures describe part of my culture, and something of myself. I am also very interested in textiles, and textile design. I am influenced in my pattern and design work by many 19th century designs, antique lace patterns, and of course by the most amazing patterns which are found in nature. My work is currently for sale at various locations in Peterborough Ontario. Restaurants: Kubo Lounge Galleries: Christensen Fine Art and The Art Gallery of Peterborough I can be contacted through this site if you wish to purchase work or discuss a commission.
